How to Get out of a Reading Slump

Do you get bored with books halfway through it and leave them unfinished? Has reading become a chore to you? Well, chances are, you are in a reading slump. This blog post will outline what books to read, and how to get out of the slump.

THE RIGHT KIND OF BOOKS:

If you are finding a book boring, that doesn’t mean all books are boring. Here is how to find the right book.

1) Find a book that gets you excited about reading

Think back to when you read a book and you absolutely LOVED it. You hung onto every word until the end of the book. Find that kind of book. What is your book that got you excited about reading? Go read that book.

2) Try something new

Maybe you have lost your love for a certain trope or genre. Well, go try something new. It’s that simple.

3) Read a book you loved as a child

Relive the same nostalgia of that book by rereading it.

GET MOTIVATED

If you aren’t motivated to read, then you won’t read. Most readers enjoyment comes from the fun of reading a book, but maybe that isn’t for you. Here are some ways to get new motivation for reading.

1) Download a book tracker.

Sometimes seeing visually what you have read can motivate you to read more. Goodreads and The Story Graph are some options!

2) Print (or buy) a reading journal

In my freebies for my email list, I have included a PDF for a reading planner with a TBR list and more!

3) Join a bookclub

Reading alongside other readers is SO helpful for getting motivated! You could even run your own bookclub.

4) Ask yourself WHY you read

Do you read because it is entertaining? Read an entertaining book.
Do you read because you love the emotions? Read an emotional book.
Do you read because you like learning? Read an educational book.

You probably get it by now.

TIPS AND TRICKS

1) Register at your local library

I cannot stress enough how much this helped me. Before, my only option was to buy books, which can be expensive, so naturally I wasn’t reading much. But after joining the library, I was reading WAY more.

2) Listen to audiobooks

If you feel unproductive when you are reading, or you are too busy, an audiobook can be a great multitasking solution.

3) Download your libraries digital library

Some libraries have apps that have audio and e-books. Some of these apps include: Cloudlibrary, Libby, and Hoopla.

4) Read for a bit every night before you go to bed

This builds a strong habit of constant reading.

5) Always have a book nearby

Instead of reaching for your phone, reach for your book.

I hope all these tips helped you! Now go get out there and READ!
